Wednesday Line Combos

September 23, 2009

It was nice of the coaching staff to color-code the lines today at the morning skate. Here’s what we should see tonight, though the positions could be off for some of these and these aren’t necessarily the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines. The defensive pairings aren’t clear, but I can at least tell you who’s playing.

Kovalchuk- Antropov- Little
Fritsche- Reasoner Peverley- Crabb
Kane- Machacek- Stapleton- Afinogenov
Gratton- Slater- Thorburn

I’ll have more details after the skate and I’ll see if I can et some clarity on that 4-man line.

By the way, Evander Holyfield is here to get a tour and meet Evander Kane. Eric Boulton, who isn’t playing tonight, has been chatting him up on the bench.

Machacek isn’t in the lineup for tonight, but Maxim Afinogenov was under the weather yesterday so he might be a game-time decision. That would explain why Spencer was out there this morning.

Also, I somehow mistook 15 for 19. Reasoner isn’t playing- Crabb is, so move Peverley to the middle between Crabb and Fritsche.

Well then, I am quite excited to see our top line and most of our top defenders in person tonite. Bringing 7 friends to the game so I hope they get to see Evander play at home finally. I don’t think they’d get him all jacked up about meeting the Champ and then crush his hopes by not putting him in the lineup. Do you think Evander H will be in attendance tonite? Perhaps we should give him some skates and a sweater to protect Kovy from Tootoo!

The Gratton/Slater/Thorburn line could be an interesting experiment.

Ben… I would guess that Afinogenov will sub out with Little on the top line.

    … just a thought.

I’m excited to see Kovy-Antro-Little in person, and I’m hoping at some point during the game we see Kane-Peverley-Afinogenov together.

It’s very possible… Coach claimed that when Pevs and Max are on the ice together “they fly”.

Then throw a budding superstar in Kane with them and you’ve got three great scoring lines…I love it.

Well, I was really hoping to see Kulda get to dress in a game in ATL, but this lineup looks good. At this point in the pre-season, we need to get the guys who are likely to be here on opening night to develop some chemistry. Defense looks like it is set, except Hainsey will be in the top 4 come opening night. Should be interesting to see if any of the bad blood from the game in Nashville carries over given that we are dressing a much more dynamic roster.

Everett, didn’t Gratton bloody someone’s nose in Nashville? I reckon JA wants him to be out there in case of attempted retribution. It’s great to have a kid like him in case Boultsy gets hurt or the bottom line slumps.

Chris, my sentiments exactly! I know Stapleton has earned a “look-see” but to hell with him. I wanna see Pevs manning the pivot for Kane and Mad Max…talk about your hella fast lines! Wowzers!

    Go Thrash!

From what I’ve heard, Stapleton has some “wheels” also.

Any update on the Hainsey and Armstrong ‘lower body injuries’?
