Thrashers vs Predators Prospects- Game 2 Live Blog

September 15, 2009

Game two will be underway in a few minutes. I haven’t been told otherwise so I’m assuming we’re going with the same lineups as last night. Scroll down to last night’s live blog if you need the Thrashers roster. The internet connection I’m using is struggling today so updates might be a bit less frequent. Nashville is probably hoping that the Thrashers goals are less frequent after getting torched for six last night. Here are the highlights in case you haven’t seen them yet. Keep checking back for updates, which will be at the bottom of this post.

No score yet. The Thrashers captains, by the way, are Paul Postma (captain) and Andrew Kozek (alternate). For Nashville it’s Spaling (C), Blum (A) and Santorelli (A). There are some Nashville fans in the good-sized crowd and one of them is wearing a rare Kariya Predators t-shirt.

Goal by Predators.  Beck from Stromberg and Vandall.

The Predators scored again with 8.5 seconds left in the first period to go up 2-0 heading into the second period. Spaling scored with the second assist from Mark Van Guilder. I’m not sure who had the first but I’ll get it by the end of the game.

One sidenote- Riley Holzapfel is playing today and Scott Lehman is out, so there’s been a bit of line shuffling to fit in the extra forward. No word on why the change was made.

Today’s game isn’t quite as chippy, but Danick Paquette is chatting up the Predators players as much as he can.

I just got the scoresheet. The assists on the second Nashville goal are now going to Santorelli and Colin Wilson. Blum leads all players with a +2 rating. Forney, Bubnick, Koper, Looby and Smith are all -2 for Atlanta.

Still 2-0 Predators. The just switched from Pickard to Smith in goal and the Thrashers are on yet another power play. They’ve been controlling the puck well but haven’t capitalized, or even gotten many quality chances. Nashville has been letting them cycle on the perimeter but they’re clamping down inside.

It’s still 2-0 after a scoreless second period. Riley Holzapfel took a puck to the face and left the game to be attended to by the training staff. There was no blood on the ice, so that’s a good sign.

I really like the way Levko Koper is playing despite his -2 rating. He’s not a very big player (6-0, 185) but he plays a physical style. He reminds me a little bit of Joey Crabb.

Still 2-0 with 1:25 remaining and Josh Unice on the bench. Regardless of the score the game will be followed a 5-man shootout.

Thrashers fall 3-0 and lose 2-1 in an eight-round shootout. Recap and video will be posted later. Time to go to the locker room.

I really liked the way Koper played last night too. Glad to hear he’s playing just as hard today. He definitely took a few bigger guys into the boards, he was first after the puck and made some nice, crisp passes.
