Web Coverage and Informal Skating

August 19, 2009

A couple of quick notes from around the web: has a piece up about the top players over 35. They chose a first and second team of veteran all-stars and their starting left winger is none other than Slava Kozlov who finished 24th in league scoring.

The Hockey News does a regular “Hot List” of top prospects and this week’s edition is topped by Thrashers draft pick Jeremy Morin. The kid has great hands and a gift for goal-scoring.

I’m up in Duluth and I’ll have more from here later (hopefully).  A handful of players are out on the ice skating together (all workouts before training camp are 100% voluntary and organized by the players themselves- no coaches) with Eric Boulton leading the drills. There are 12-14 players skating (they go on and off frequently so it’s hard to keep tabs) and many are local players or Gladiators who I don’t recognize.

NHL players and prospects who are skating today include Johan Hedberg, Chris Thorburn, Eric Boulton, Slava Kozlov, Nathan Oystrick, Angelo Esposito and Eric Perrin. Perrin is still an unrestricted free agent and is wearing his jersey inside out. The other identifiable players on the ice are Dartmouth forward and prospect camp attendee Doug Jones and goalie Chris Kamal who is the son of Thrashers radio man Dan Kamal.

Keep an eye on the site later today for a video feature and blog post about Eric Boulton and Chris Thorburn working out with a boxing trainer.
